Hi. I am Elesha Storey, Founder of The DASHING Nation and this is...

MY DASHING STOREY

The acronym DASHING—Dying to Achieve Success and Happiness IN God and the

DASHING Movement were birthed from the passing of my father. His transition reminded me

that life is a dash, a brief but powerful mark between the day we are born and the day we

leave this earth. Out of that painful loss came a renewed purpose: to inspire others to live fully

in their God-given calling. Creating a faith-driven community helping one another discover

our calling, walk in it, and leave a legacy that honors God.”

Founder/Chief Purpose Officer

When I was a 17 year old college freshman, I was a back seat passenger in a highly publicized one car accident involving a college basketball star. The car hit a bridge, went airborne, landed on the roof, and caught fire. I was unknowingly pregnant at the time and not wearing a seatbelt but walked away with minor injuries. I did not realize or appreciate it then, but God spared me and my son for a reason. Fast forward, I lost my dad on April 13, 2015. His homegoing service was a beautiful celebration of his life, attended by over five hundred people who came to pay their respects and honor his memory.

After the graveside ceremony, I gently removed flowers from his casket and placed them on the nearby graves of our loved ones—my great-grandparents, whom I was blessed to know and love, as well as my great-uncle and grandmother.

As I moved from grave to grave, my eyes kept falling on the dash between each person’s birth and death dates. That small line—a simple dash seemed so inadequate to represent the fullness of who they were. I thought about my great-grandfather, who journeyed from the South to the Midwest and started his own business, building a legacy for generations to come. I thought about my grandmother, Leanna Maggard, the first African American Chief Deputy of Voter Registration in the City of Indianapolis. When she retired, the city honored her with a “Key to the City” and declared a day in her name. Both were pillars in our family, our community, and our church.

On the long drive back home to Texas, I couldn’t stop thinking about that dash. It stirred something in me. I said to myself, “If I want to see God, my father, and my grandmother again—I have to change my dash. I have to live for Christ.”

And somewhere on that road between Indiana and Texas, God dropped something into my spirit: DASHING — Dying to Achieve Success and Happiness IN God.

•D – Dying:
When we want something deeply, we say we're "dying to do it." But to be like Christ, we must truly die to ourselves—our flesh, our ego, and even to certain people, places, and things. Every day we live, we also die a little. But in Christ, that death makes way for new life.

•ASH – Achieve Success and Happiness:
That abundant life God promises us doesn’t look the same for everyone, but it’s always rooted in being IN connection with Him. Real success and lasting joy are only found in His presence.

When I returned to Texas, I began my DASHING journey with the mission to inspire and equip others to find their God-given purpose, to maximize their dash, and to move beyond just existing… to start DASHING.

If I wanted to please God, live my purpose, see Him, my father and loved ones again, I needed to change my dash.
